D. Michael Adams - Fine Art Sculptures & Paintings
BIOGRAPHY
D. Michael Adams has won several awards, commissions and gallery positions since starting primarily as a sculptor in Paris in 1994. In Colorado (1999-2005), Michael created two monumental sculptures for the performing arts center of Breckenridge, where he also co-founded Arts Alive Gallery. In 2005, he moved with his family to the Abacos Islands of the Bahamas, creating both sculptures and paintings - and starting his interest in marine conservation. These years inspired his ocean abstract paintings, as well as the founding of Ocean Assets Group to finance marine conservation worldwide. From 2010-2013, the family was in London, where Michael was elected to the United Society of Artists and created a series of large paintings for St Barnabas Church. In 2013, Michael and his family moved to the Swiss Alps where his art studio has become a feature of interest to guests of the family BnB, Domaine Bellevie. He continues to paint colorful landscapes, abstracts and figurative works along with original sculptures.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
In sculpture, I celebrate the expressive power of the human figure with themes like Dance and Lovers. Although I was classically trained, I also enjoy playing with shapes where the emotion calls for a departure from strict anatomy. My bronze (in unique marble patinas) and terra cotta pieces are suitable for gardens and interiors.
In painting, I use oil paints and knives to bring color and texture to themes ranging from abstract (especially oceans) and figurative. My career in ocean-related finance and years in the Bahamas drive my passion to find solutions to the many challenges we face on our blue planet.
